THE LINUX FOUNDATION PROJECTS

The DAB consortium is pleased to share that the Device Automation Bus (DAB2.1 specification has been finalized and is now public on GitHub!

Key Highlights in DAB 2.1 (refer to the release notes for the exhaustive list of changes):

  • Enhanced Platform Control: Greater capabilities for managing device power modes, performing system operations like factory resets and network resets, and collecting system logs.

  • Rich Application Management: New operations to install applications from URLs or App Stores, uninstall applications, and clear application data.

  • Content Interaction: Ability to search for content, retrieve recommendations, and open specific content on the device.

  • Expanded System Settings: Control over brightness, contrast, time zone, screensaver, and more.

  • Improved Compliance: introducing a “Core Functionality Profile” to define baseline requirements for DAB compliance, ensuring a minimum level of useful functionality. Test results will also be clearer for mandatory vs. optional features.

These updates will enable more comprehensive and reliable automation and testing, ultimately benefiting the quality and robustness of YouTube on living room devices.
